Upgrading, downgrading or cancelling
Change plans anytime; upgrades are instant and your records always come with you.
Only the account owner can change the plan, and it always starts in the same place: Preferences → Subscription. Where you finish depends on how you’re paying now.
On the free plan? Pick the plan you want and confirm, right there in the app.
Already paying? A subscription can only be changed through whatever bills it, so the app hands you over:
-
Subscribed on the web: tap Manage Subscription to open the Stripe billing portal and change your plan there.
-
Subscribed through the App Store or Google Play: you’ll make the change in that store, and the app points you there.
One wrinkle worth knowing: Manage Subscription only appears on the web, so if you subscribed on the web but you’re holding your phone, open Vinyl Crate Space in a browser to change your plan. The Subscription screen in the phone app tells you as much.
Upgrades take effect immediately, and your records, notes and history come with you, nothing needs re-entering.
Downgrades and cancellations take effect at the end of your current billing period, so you keep what you’ve paid for until then. When it lapses, your account moves to the Free plan (30 records) rather than disappearing, your records stay safe. Your AI Credits go back to the free plan’s 10 a month at the same time, and from then on they renew on the day of the month you created your account rather than your old billing date. See What AI Credits are and how they’re used.
If you’re dropping to a smaller plan
Your records are never deleted. If your collection is over the new plan’s limit, everything stays exactly where it is, but your collection becomes read-only until you’re back under the limit. That means no adding, editing, rating or note-taking in the meantime, so it’s worth knowing before you downgrade. See What happens if you go over your record limit.
Seats go straight away. If you’re on a Duet or Band plan and move to one with fewer seats, the extra members leave the household as soon as the change reaches us. Unclaimed invitations are cancelled first, then the most recently joined members, so nobody with records is displaced for a seat that was never taken up.
Anyone who leaves this way lands on their own Free plan with their Private collection, wishlist, notes, listens and ratings intact. Nothing of theirs is lost. The catch is that the change is made in the App Store, Google Play or the Stripe portal, and we’re told about it afterwards, so the app can’t show you who’s affected before you confirm. If you’re not sure, count your members first.
