Joining someone else's plan
What happens to your own collection when you accept an invitation.
Someone has invited you onto their Duet or Band plan. Here’s what you’re saying yes to.
Accepting
The invitation arrives by email. Sign in to Vinyl Crate Space as you normally would, and the app shows you the invitation with a dialog before anything happens.
If you already have a collection, that dialog tells you how many records will move across. Read it, then tap Accept and merge.
Your records come with you
You don’t start over, and you don’t leave your collection behind:
- Your records move into your own Private collection inside the shared plan, with their notes, listening history, ratings and favourites
- Your wishlist comes too
- Your locations, crates, genres and tags merge into the household’s by name, so a “Living room shelf” in both places stays one shelf rather than becoming two
From then on you have two places to put a record: your Private collection, which only you can see, and the household’s Shared collection, which everyone on the plan can see and edit. See How shared collections work on Duet and Band plans.
If you’re already paying
You can’t be on two plans at once, so if you have a subscription of your own the app warns you before you accept.
Paid on the web, your subscription is cancelled for you when you join, so you’re never billed twice. Paid through the App Store or Google Play, only you can cancel it: the app gives you a direct link, and it’s worth doing straight away.
If it won’t let you accept
Two things can get in the way:
- You own a shared plan with other members on it. A person can only belong to one household, so you’ll need to disband yours first.
- Their plan can’t fit your records as well as their own. Your invitation stays open, so ask them to upgrade and try again.
